Toni Morrison (1931–2019) was an American novelist and editor who gained national recognition with her 1977 novel, Song of Solomon. Her literary contributions were honored with the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Pulitzer Prize for Beloved, and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993. Her debut novel, The Bluest Eye, was published in 1970.
