Founded in 1917 by Albert Boni and Horace Liveright, Modern Library is an American publishing imprint. It became an independent company in 1925 following its acquisition by Bennett Cerf and Donald Klopfer. Random House originated as a subsidiary of the firm in 1927, eventually growing to become the parent company of the Modern Library imprint.
