Around 1980, I used earth from soil drillings in South Limburg to make ten paintings. They form the basis of this book. The originals no longer exist. Years later, I rediscovered damaged negatives and restored them. The work follows a fixed protocol in which repetition produces variation. Presented as near-identical pairs, the images reveal difference through comparison, reflecting Deleuze’s idea that repetition produces difference rather than sameness.
