Stephen J. Shoemaker

Stephen J. Shoemaker is an American scholar specializing in ancient and early medieval Christianity and early Islam. A professor of religious studies at the University of Oregon, he holds a Ph.D. from Duke University. His academic research focuses on the history of Christianity, Christian Apocrypha, early devotion to the Virgin Mary, and the relationship between formative Islam and Near Eastern Christianity.
