Sappho

Sappho was an ancient Greek lyric poet from the island of Lesbos, active between approximately 630 and 570 BC. She composed lyric poetry designed to be sung with musical accompaniment and was historically celebrated as the Tenth Muse. While most of her work has been lost or survives only in fragments, her legacy remains significant as one of the most influential poets of antiquity, with the Ode to Aphrodite standing as her only certainly complete surviving piece.
