Lyonel Feininger

Lyonel Feininger was a German-American artist and a leading figure in Expressionism. Born in New York City, he moved to Europe in 1887 to study art before establishing a successful career as a cartoonist and caricaturist. At age 36, he transitioned to fine art, developing a signature style defined by prismatic, translucent forms, architectural motifs, and maritime themes. Beyond painting, he produced a significant body of photography and musical compositions.
