James Merrill

James Ingram Merrill (1926–1995) was an American poet, essayist, and playwright. His literary career is defined by two distinct phases: the polished formalist lyrics of his early work and the epic narrative of occult communication found in The Changing Light at Sandover. He received the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1977 for his collection Divine Comedies.
