Jacob Lawrence

Jacob Lawrence was an American painter known for his focus on African-American historical subjects and contemporary life. He developed a style he termed dynamic cubism, which utilized blacks and browns alongside vivid colors to capture the everyday experience in Harlem. In addition to his creative work, Lawrence served as a professor at the University of Washington for 16 years.
