Gary Snyder

Gary Snyder is an American poet, essayist, and environmental activist known for his associations with the Beat Generation and the San Francisco Renaissance. His writing reflects a deep immersion in Buddhist spirituality and nature, and he has translated literature from ancient Chinese and modern Japanese. A former academic at the University of California, Davis, Snyder is a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry and the American Book Award.
