Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Gabriel García Márquez was a Colombian writer and journalist recognized as one of the most significant authors of the 20th century. After leaving law school to pursue a career in journalism, he became known for his political criticism and literary contributions. He was awarded the 1972 Neustadt International Prize for Literature and the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature. He was married to Mercedes Barcha Pardo, with whom he had two sons.
