Aaron Douglas

Aaron Douglas was an American painter, illustrator, and educator who served as a central figure of the Harlem Renaissance. His work utilized African-centric imagery to address social issues regarding race and segregation in the United States. Beyond his mural and illustration practice, he founded the Art Department at Fisk University, where he taught from 1944 until his retirement in 1966.
